Your Web 3 Guru and Moonbet presenting todays match: NEC Nijmegen – SC Heerenveen
NEC’s home record has been nothing short of impressive in the last three months. The team led by coach Rogier Molhoek has won six consecutive matches: four in the Eredivisie and two in the cup. In these six encounters, the Nijmegen side also kept three clean sheets and conceded only three goals in total. This streak has propelled NEC to seventh place in the Eredivisie after 24 match rounds. With 36 points, securing a playoff spot is a realistic goal, while direct qualification for Europe is also within reach.
This is partly due to a golden opportunity on Sunday, April 21st, when NEC will face Feyenoord in the cup final at De Kuip. It will be NEC’s fifth attempt to claim the Dutch cup. The gap with the fifth-placed team, Ajax, is still bridgeable. Moreover, with their current form, NEC sees ample opportunities in the playoffs as well.
SC Heerenveen
NEC might also look at SC Heerenveen with some envy, as the latter already has major silverware in their trophy cabinet after winning the cup in 2009. In the current cup campaign, however, Heerenveen’s journey ended in an away match against NEC’s arch-rivals: the troubled Vitesse. Since late December, the focus for Kees van Wonderen’s team has been squarely on making it to the playoffs.
However, this remains a significant challenge for the Frisian club. The season has been characterized by alternating spells of good and bad results. After a stumble against Go Ahead Eagles, Heerenveen seems to have found their footing, but perhaps the lower quality of their last two opponents also contributed to securing six points against Volendam (0-4) and PEC Zwolle (2-0). It will be interesting to see if ninth-placed Heerenveen can maintain or even narrow the gap with NEC on the table, which stands at five points.
