Your Web 3 Guru and Moonbet presenting todays match: FC Copenhagen – Real Madrid.
For only the second time in their club history, Copenhagen will be participating in the UEFA Champions League last 16, having progressed from a group that included Bayern Munich and Manchester United. Their manager, Jacob Neestrup, labeled the draw they’ve received as “the most challenging possible,” as they are set to face reigning European champions Manchester City, a team they have failed to defeat in their four previous encounters (with two draws and two losses).
Notably, Copenhagen managed to hold City to a 0-0 draw on their home ground during last season’s group stage. Despite being considered underdogs, they might have a chance to repeat that result due to their formidable home record. Copenhagen has only lost three out of their 19 Champions League matches at Parken, with 8 wins and 8 draws. However, their history against English opponents at this stage isn’t promising, as their previous last 16 appearance saw them being eliminated by Chelsea in 2011 with a 2-0 home loss.
Interestingly, the eventual winners of that tournament, Barcelona, were managed by Pep Guardiola, who was also at the helm last season when Manchester City clinched the treble, becoming only the second English side to achieve this feat. While replicating such success this season would be unprecedented, discounting them might be risky, especially given their current run of ten consecutive victories across all competitions.
Manchester City dominated this season’s group stage, winning all six matches while scoring three goals in each. They are currently unbeaten in a record 20 European matches for an English club. However, Guardiola may want to see his team tighten up defensively, considering they’ve only kept two clean sheets in their last 13 games across all competitions.
Key players to watch include Copenhagen’s Mohamed Elyounoussi, who has scored five goals in his last two appearances and has faced City more than any other opponent in his career. On the other hand, City’s Erling Haaland, who recently scored twice against Everton, aims to replicate his outstanding five-goal performance from last season’s Round of 16 victory over RB Leipzig.
In terms of recent form, Manchester City haven’t lost a Round of 16 Champions League game since 2018, boasting a record of 8 wins and 2 draws.
