Your Web 3 Guru and Moonbet presenting todays match: Excelsior Rotterdam – FC Twente Enschede.
Excelsior Rotterdam kicked off the eighth round of Eredivisie in fifth place, but as the 21st round commenced, they struggled to double their points tally in the subsequent 13 games (from 12 to 21). Marinus Dijkhuizen’s team has recorded eight draws in the competition, dropping numerous points along the way and now find themselves just two places above the relegation zone. Despite their challenges, one bright spot is their goal-scoring ability, being the most prolific among the bottom-half teams with 33 goals.
Similarly, they have found the net in each of their last 12 Eredivisie matches, although goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel has managed to keep a clean sheet only once during this period. Excelsior bolstered their squad on the final day of the transfer window with the addition of Lance Duijvestijn from Almere City, who could potentially make his debut for the club this weekend, following their recent 2-1 loss to his former team.
On the other hand, FC Twente tends to excel in scoring goals at home, as demonstrated in their recent 3-0 victory against RKC, where Myron Boadu made a striking debut with an immediate goal. However, their away performances present a different story, having failed to score in their last two Eredivisie away games. Moreover, in seven of their last eight visits to Excelsior, Twente has managed no more than two goals.
Joseph Oosting has had the luxury of a practically fully fit squad to choose from in recent weeks, resulting in some talented players being benched. Nevertheless, their squad depth has proven beneficial, with Twente’s substitutes contributing 13 goals this league season, seven of which were scored by Ricky van Wolfswinkel off the bench. Notably, his goal against RKC last weekend marked his first of the year in a starting role.
Players to keep an eye on include Excelsior’s right back Siebe Horemans, who has been directly involved in a goal in each of his last two matches (scoring one and providing one assist), and Younes Taha, who has scored in three of his last five Eredivisie appearances.
An interesting statistic to note is that Excelsior’s last four home games against Twente have all ended in draws, with the last three matches producing no goals in the second half.
